Clinical Deep Tissue

Clinical Deep Tissue Massage is a much more specific approach to working with soft tissue dysfunction, limited range of motion and chronic pain resulting from surgery, injury or long term misuse.  Many practitioners say they do Deep Tissue Massage but in truth they merely perform a Swedish massage with a lot of pressure.  I practice true Deep Tissue work which combines elements of myofascial release, sports massage and trigger point work in order to address specific tissue damage and pain.

The damage might be from any number, or combination, of causes such as trauma, surgery, strain and repetitive stress and the pain may be chronic or acute.  The affected tissues can be muscles, tendons, cartilage, ligaments or fascia.  The trigger points and/or scar tissue in these structures can cause referred pain and discomfort elsewhere in the body, affect gait and posture and lead to long term tissue imbalances.  By working these trigger points and breaking up the scar tissue, the referred pain can be diminished and the damaged tissues restored to health.

Clinical Deep Tissue Massage is especially helpful for athletes of all skill levels.  This is because almost every sport (golf, tennis, running, cycling, etc.) requires the athlete to execute repetitive motions with greater than normal force.  Over time these actions can create muscle imbalances which can lead to compensation which leads to pain.  By addressing the root cause of the pain and not just the symptoms, the athlete is able to experience less pain and better performance.
